The Birth

She finally collapses on the floor
And remembers her lost youth
Bringing her the lonely pleasure
Of her father’s home now far away

She was born only to be given away
When she came of age so tender
Made to leave the home unwillingly
And severe all bonds for strangers

She surrenders her youth and beauty
To be wife, mother, daughter-in-law
All rolled into one perfect model
A total change perhaps for the better

Giving birth for the umpteenth time
Hoping to bring forth a male child
Endures the killing pain and anxiety
To wait until a cry is heard

While the family rejoice outside
In celebration of hope and continuity
She fixes her gaze into the oblivion
Comforted only by the warm oozing blood

Bringing warmth to her tired body
She wishes the nearness of her mother
To hide her head between her bosom
And feel secure like a child once again.
