The Swoyambunath Stupa or the ‘Monkey Temple’ as known to tourists is one of the oldest Buddhist Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Perched on a hill top it commands a breathtaking view of the valley below. Last May on Buddha Jayanti I went to visit the stupa to pay homage. I bought some lime powder and yellow saffron to be collected in huge containers from visitors. This would be poured onto the white mound as fresh paint which you can see in the picture.
